Change is rarely easy, especially when it confronts our deepest fears. As part of an FCS Youth Group activity, Anderson, a fifth grader, began a remarkable journey of overcoming his fear of horses. Initially, just being near the animals brought him to tears. But with gentle encouragement and the support of his peers, Anderson made incredible progress.
When our youth group began visiting horses at Soofa Ranch, Anderson was gently encouraged to stay in the process, no matter how small his steps might be. On his first day, he bravely stood a safe distance from the horse—a huge leap for him. Over the weeks, Anderson faced his fear with the support of patient leaders and cheering friends. Each visit brought new milestones: feeding the horses by hand, brushing their coats, and eventually walking among them with calm confidence.
From feeding the horses to brushing their coats, Anderson built confidence step by step. Eventually, he reached a milestone that left everyone cheering—sitting atop a horse! His bravery inspired his peers, family, and leaders.
This experience reflects the heart of FCS’ youth programming: creating safe spaces where young people can grow, face challenges, and discover their potential with the support of a loving community. Anderson’s story is a testament to the power of encouragement and the incredible outcomes possible when neighbors come together.
We are so proud of Anderson and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!
