Thriving neighborhoods support the well-being of the whole person.
At Focused Community Strategies, Neighborhood Health & Wellness focuses on creating the conditions where individuals and families can experience physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being right where they live.
We work alongside neighbors and partners to cultivate holistic wellness. Through strong partnerships, community-centered initiatives, and coordinated interventions, we support residents in building healthier lives and stronger, more connected communities.
Access to fresh food, safe and welcoming spaces, strong relationships, and supportive community systems all play a role in whether individuals and families can thrive.
In the neighborhoods we serve, strengthening health and wellness means addressing these conditions together, in ways that are rooted in community and built for the long term.
Access to healthy, affordable food is essential to community well-being.
Through Carver Market, a neighborhood grocery store, FCS increases access to fresh food while creating a welcoming space where neighbors can shop, connect, and build relationships.
In partnership with Urban Recipe, neighborhood food co-ops bring fresh food directly into the community, creating consistent access while fostering dignity and connection among participants.
Together, these efforts support both physical health and the social connections that strengthen a neighborhood.
Strong communities are built through connection.
Spaces like Community Grounds Café serve as gathering places where neighbors can build relationships, share ideas, and spend time together outside of home and work. FCS also creates opportunities for connection through seasonal and community-led initiatives like the South Atlanta Christmas Store. This annual event provides families with access to affordable gifts while creating a joyful, dignified shopping experience. More than a one-time event, it brings neighbors together, strengthens relationships, and reflects the spirit of generosity and community that defines the neighborhood.
These “third spaces” help foster belonging and strengthen the social fabric of the neighborhood.
Access to care and wellness resources is critical to long-term health.
FCS partners with organizations to bring services directly into the neighborhood through mobile health initiatives, increasing access to care for residents.
In addition, FCS supports programming and partnerships that promote mental, physical, and social well-being, helping ensure that individuals and families have the resources they need to thrive.
Access to healthy food and physical activity supports learning and academic success. Safe, stable housing contributes to physical and mental health. Strong relationships create the foundation for resilience and belonging.
By working across sectors and alongside partners, FCS helps ensure that health and wellness are not isolated outcomes, but part of a thriving, connected neighborhood.
