Life at Haven in South Atlanta is never dull—there’s always something going on with residents as they build community together! As one of our Community Coordinators, Joel Barber, says “It’s important that people understand there’s going to be a lot more neighbor-to-neighbor engagement–It’s important that you know that when you move here, it offers a lot for you.”

Haven Garden Club
Residents with a green thumb have been enjoying Haven’s Garden Club. The Club is hosted regularly by one of the Haven Community Coordinators, and neighbors spend time planting and tending gardens that yield food, flowers, and herbs. Right now, the Club is particularly popular with younger children ages 5-10 who are ready to dig their hands into the soil and learn about gardening. We’ve also loved having a few seniors jump into the fun every now and again to connect with nature and one another.
Haven Food Co-op
Bi-weekly, the Haven Food Co-op gathers for an afternoon of community, service, and fellowship from 4:30-6:30 PM. Haven residents are welcome to take part in the co-op run in partnership with Urban Recipe—the only requirement is that residents desire to participate! When the truck carrying groceries arrives, co-op members collaboratively unload, sort, count, organize, and distribute the provisions within the community. We’re so excited to celebrate one year of learning to lead the work together and connect to our neighborhood! We’re also thankful for Tamika “Juicey” for leading the charge on what it means to serve our community.
Community Events
We also know that deep relationships form when people have regular time to hang out and have fun together! The Haven coordinators plan two events each month intended to inspire connection and fun. This month they’re hosting a Valentine’s Day social and a Family Game Night! We’ve loved welcoming 10-15 residents each week, on average. We can’t wait for more – and neighbors are offering up great ideas for future events.
