Working Together for Flourishing Communities

Lights. Buzzers. Friendly competition. And a reminder of what makes our work possible.

Recently, the FCS team traded neighborhood meetings for game show podiums during a staff outing at The Game Show Challenge. After dividing into Team Charlie Brown and Team Goals, we spent the evening tackling trivia, puzzles, and fast-paced challenges that required quick thinking, teamwork, and plenty of laughter.

While we’re still disappointed to learn those oversized prize checks aren’t actually redeemable, we all walked away with something much more valuable: a reminder of how much we enjoy working together.

The evening didn’t end when the final buzzer sounded. We gathered around the table afterward for dinner at Boxcar, sharing stories, celebrating one another, and enjoying the kind of conversations that don’t always fit between meetings and project deadlines.

At first glance, it might seem like just another team outing. For us, it was a reflection of something much deeper.

Community Development Is a Team Sport

At FCS, no single person carries the mission alone.

Every day, our staff brings different experiences, perspectives, skills, and passions to the table. Some of us spend our days helping longtime homeowners make critical repairs so they can remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love. Others work alongside partners to create affordable housing opportunities, support local entrepreneurs as they grow their businesses, connect children and families with educational opportunities, or help neighbors access resources that strengthen health and well-being.

On paper, those responsibilities look very different. But in practice, they are deeply connected.

A thriving neighborhood isn’t built by housing alone. Safe homes matter, but so do healthy families. Strong schools matter. Local businesses matter. Places where neighbors know one another matter.

Creating communities of opportunity, access, and belonging requires people who are willing to think beyond their own roles and work together toward something bigger than themselves.

That’s exactly what happens every day at FCS.

We’re grateful for an incredible team that brings compassion, creativity, expertise, and yes, a healthy dose of competitive spirit to this work every day.

And while we may not have cashed in those giant prize checks, we certainly walked away richer for the experience.
